The project of « DAR EL ITTIHAD » is situated in a particular location of Tunis, specifically in the periphery of the center of the city, in cité El KHADRA.§
The buildings are designed to host the offices, a congress center and a big gathering place. The buildings will cover 20600 m2. 10900 m2 will be dedicated for the offices and the congress center and 9600 m2 of underground for the technical locals, a printing house, and a parking lot.
The image of the building was designed by the architect to reflect the themes of solidarity, unity, autonomy, democracy and modernity.
It is materialized by a generous cap from which emerges a sober and elegant volume, thus defining in a graceful way a square "BATHA EL Ittihad, welcoming and securing all the categories of workers and really making the headquarters of the UGTT the Union of Tunisian workers.
The strong, referential, modern, pure and simple image reflects the progressive character of the Tunisian trade unionist movement and symbolizes the important position occupied by the UGTT in the political, cultural and social life in the country.
The building is designed to house the office and cultural activities of the UGTT. It consists of four distinct sets :
- A set of offices on seven parallel levels, welcoming the activities of the General Secretary, the members of the Executive Board and their respective departments, and all sector federations.
- A cultural space including a national book and media library and a national museum of the Tunisian trade unionist movement.
- A congress center including a 600-seat amphitheater with all the commodities, 4 rooms for commissions and two large communicating rooms for meetings.
- Two levels of underground totaling 9600 m² dedicatedfor the printing house of the newspaper Echaab, the technical offices, the social care home and 125 parking spaces.
